The Soopsworld Week In Links : Pixelicious, SATC2, Christina Aguilera & M.I.A, Arcade Fire and Spotify Disco Al Desko

First of all, it’s not just about discovering & sharing musical treasure in Soopsworld, y’know – following on from Mr Ronson’s pixelicious(and horn-section free, phew)  Circuit Breaker video debut t’other day, the inevitable ripples of all things pixel have popped … Continue reading

RWND

It was a pretty typical June morning at the office. Sat at my desk counting stuff (that’s really all you need to know about what I do to pay my bills), plugged into my earphones because my collegues were undoubtedly playing some god awful attempt at R n B on the shared stereo and undoubtedly my mind was elsewhere.
In recent weeks I’d been on a continual Google stream of consciousness search for a source of new music to remedy the almighty rut I was stuck in. 2009 until then hadn’t really been all that on the music front as far as I was concerned. There’d been a flicker of hope from the Miike Snow album, which to this day I still adore, however many months later the UK just seemed flooded with X-Factor riddled blah or female artists that didn’t really sound that different to each other.

Ranging from Indie-Kylie-Lite at best(Little Boots) to Ooh-I’m- SO- ECCENTRIC (Lady Gaga) to, well, something that sounded like foxes having sex(La Roux). Sweet Lord, I was BORED.
Anyways, skip back to this Google Stream Of Consciousness Search and I stumbled upon the Aladdins Cave of New Music, http://rcrdlbl.com/, and I was finally saved. I signed up for the Daily Free MP3 newsletter (for the uninitiated, yes REALLY, the lovely people at RCRD LBL send you new music EVERY day – isn’t that lovely of them?) and subscribed to the podcast, my curiosity finally beginning to get quenched.
FFWD to me sat at my desk, counting stuff, listening to the RCRD LBL podcast I’d just subscribed to. And ‘Percussion Gun’ comes on. It was like someone had just plugged the mains in the back of me after me being in sleep-mode for 6 months, un-believable. Within days I’d ordered the album (It’s Frightening ) and I haven’t shut up about them ever since. Next Wednesday they play in London – I don’t think I’ve been so excited about a gig in, well, ever.

They better not be sh*t.
