Soopsworld’s Week In Links: Deadmau5/Miles Kane/The Milk/The Vaccines/Kisses/Trophy Wife/Spotify Disco Al Desko

Just when we thought the beats couldn’t get any more epic with Daft Punk-ness all over the place (yes, especially in Soopsworld – hey, they like robots, are French and make ace music = a winning combination all round as … Continue reading

Soopsworld’s Week In Links: Are Daft Punk Soundtracking A Film Soon?/Au Revoir Simone/Cut Copy/Miles Kane/Spotify Disco Al Desko

Sometimes it’s the simple things in life that can make you happy, yesterday in my case it was discovering Au Revoir Simone had made an awesome interactive colouring book thingy on their website to promote their rather special album Au … Continue reading

Soopsworld Week In Links: Tronik Youth/Pretty Lights/White Lies/Chromeo/Spotify Disco Al Desko

Okay, so this week I have mostly been get all hot and bothered over the Adele single (lost 5 followers on Twitter as a result including the feminine hygiene company, HATERS) and demanding all my nearest and dearest have it … Continue reading

Midweek Music Meander: Spoon ‘Nobody Gets Me But You’

I first heard this in January when Spoon – Transference came out. It was quite possibly the worst song I could have heard at the time, to the point I actually laughed out loud at the absurdity, it cut so close to the bone. Time heals, etc and it remains a beautiful song, powerful with it’s simplicity.

Soopsworld’s Week In Links: Everything Everything/Ellie Goulding/I Blame Coco/Deadmau5/Hall & Oates Do Broken Bells

Pretty much every week when I ask him for his album of the week, David (of recommending albums on this blog and being Everything Everything’s NUMBER ONE FAN fame) meekly suggests Everything Everything – Man Alive despite knowing full well … Continue reading

Monday Music Mooch: Best Coast/Eternal Summers/Caitlin Rose/Allo Darlin’

There was such an avalanche of hype about Best Coast earlier in the year, I confess I resisted for months out of sheer bloody-mindedness, sulkily chucking a remix here and there into the Friday link cloud. After a couple of listens, I can’t say I’m completely on the bandwagon but mixed in with the other 3, it makes for a pleasant Monday afternoon’s listening, especially once again to combat the November greyness we look out of our windows at. Despite the array of lyrical subject matter, we could easily believe that 2010 has been one long sunshine-drenched summer (rather wistfully in the UK’s case as usual) such has been the overall theme of a lot of albums released. Listen a little closer, however and each band has quite a different lyrical take on things.

The rather tenuous link between this afternoon’s quartet of albums is, um, they’ve all got female vocalists?  Clutching at straws? Yep. Especially as in Eternal Summers’ case, it’s not exclusively a female vocal but hey, you’ll have to trust me on this one. Lyrically, Caitlin Rose is certainly a bit more interesting that the recent batch of female singer-songwriters and with Allo Darlin’ – it’s just a really lovely album. Enjoy…

Monday Music Mooch: Crystal Castles/Gold Panda/White Hinterland/Ratatat

Once again the X Factor (cultural) hangover needs a cure so, bringing harmony once again to Soopsworld HQ’s weary, ravaged by Halloween excess & soothe the disappointment from Wagner not getting to sing ‘Monster Mash’, we’ve got a quartet of albums guaranteed to make it better again.

So, take Crystal Castles ‘Crystal Castles (II) + Gold Panda ‘Lucky Shiner’ + White Hinterland ‘Kairos’ + Ratatat ‘LP4’ + hit Shuffle = Monday AM (or PM for you lot) sorted.

Midweek Musical Meander: Harlem/Sex Beet/Cloud Nothings

Okay so the surfer 60s garage rock thing clearly aint gonna quit anytime soon so sod it, let’s just embrace it and hope the sunshine on our stereos/ipods/computers makes up for the cold, rainy greyness outside.

First up, Harlem – who’s album was out in the summer (as was this video but it’s genre we’re going by today, not super-newness)

Listen to their album on Spotify: Harlem – Hippies

Then, tipped off by Rollo & Grady we have a suitably bitchin’ video from Sex Beet

And then the video for ‘Hey Cool Kid’ by Cloud Nothings because I’ve been ever so slightly obsessed with it for the past week or so.

Listen to their album on Spotify: Cloud Nothings – Turning On

See you Friday
